Gloria Payne O'Neal
Gloria Leatrice O'Neal died November 8, 2018 at the age of 92 of congested heart failure. She
was born in 1926 in Ona, Florida, the daughter of John W. Payne and Alphia "Lois" Jones Payne. She was
a resident of Lakeland since 1955 and a member of Crystal Lake United Methodist Church since the early
sixties.
Gloria had a long career in the medical field, beginning as a nursing aide and progressing to a
registered nurse. She got her nursing degree from Polk Junior College and a bachelor's degree in
psychology from St. Leo's College. After 20 years as a RN at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, she
retired in 1991.
Gloria is predeceased by her husband of 56 years James C. O'Neal Jr. She is survived by her son
Norman Joseph O'Neal, Charleston, SC and daughters Carol Leatrice Bell, Brandon, Florida; Carolyn Joy
O'Neal, Canary Island; Peggy Diane O'Neal, Lakeland, Florida and Beverly Sharon Lokken, Lakeland, FL.
She has two grandchildren, her granddaughter Katherine M. Goodemote, Richfield, MN and grandson,
Andrew J. Lokken, Lakeland, Florida. She has a surviving brother, John Payne, Bradenton, FI
