Gertrude "Louise" Tompkins' Obituary
LAKELAND - Gertrude 'Louise' Tompkins, age 91, passed away at home on Friday, July 15th 2016. This date marked what would have been her 71st wedding anniversary. She was born October 2, 1924 in Island Grove, FL.
Mrs. Tompkins came to Lakeland in 1945, after marrying the love of her life, and raised two children. Later she worked for and retired from Woolworth's in the old Sears Town shopping center. She then helped her husband run a family electric motor repair business for several years.
Mrs. Tompkins was preceded in death by her husband Wilson Lamar Tompkins, Sr. as well as her parents, 4 brothers, and many lifelong friends and relatives. She is survived by four generations of family: her daughter Anita Tompkins of Lakeland, FL and her son Wilson L. Tompkins, Jr., also of Lakeland; granddaughter Kimberly Wilson of northern California; three great grandsons, Kris (Maria), Jorgen, and Karson Skovsgard of Vero Beach, FL; and two great great grandchildren, Kirsten and Kayden.
Visitation will be at Gentry-Morrison Serenity Gardens Chapel, 3350 Mall Hill Rd in Lakeland on Wednesday, July 20th from 6-8p.m. A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, July 21st, 11:30 a.m. at Tompkins Cemetery in Lochloosa, FL. Condolences to the family may be offered at
