FRANK E. PHILLIPS, 71
LAKELAND - Frank E. Phillips, 71, of Lakeland, passed away July 19, 2014, due to heart failure. Frank was born in Dayton, Ohio, and moved to Florida as a teen. He graduated from Avon Park High School in 1963. He worked for 20 years as a mechanic for Fruit Growers Express, now CSX, and then worked for the city of St. Pete retiring in 2009. He also taught Judo for the City of Lakeland for 43 years, was president of Florida Judo Assn., served on the Olympic Committee for the Atlanta 1996 games; and was instrumental in setting up the Sunshine State Games. Frank is survived by his wife of 51 years, Alda; a son Timothy and his wife Lisa, a daughter Karla Grimsley; a sister Beverly Thompson, and five grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2014, at 3:00 pm at Trinity Life Church of God, Memorial Blvd., Lakeland, with a visitation from 2:00 to 3:00 pm.Donations may be made to Trinity Life Church of God, 1942 Memorial Blvd., Lakeland, FL, 33815.
