Florida Virginia Barfield., 91, died Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the Bridges at Bay St. Joe, surrounded by loving family. She was born in Apalachicola, Florida on November 2, 1922.
She was preceded in death by her son, Wendell; her granddaughters, Ellie, Trisha, and Lori. She leaves a precious legacy of memories to her children, daughter Virginia (Herbert) Duggar of Apalachicola, FL; and son Darrel Barfield (Judy) of Lakeland, FL.; daughter-in-law Shirley Rosalis Barfield of Eastpoint, FL.; 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and many great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins
A native of Apalachicola, Florida moved to Lakeland, FL. in 1965 and resided there until 2007 when she returned home to Apalachicola. In Lakeland, she was employed with Eckerds as a cosmetologist - then she changed jobs – she decided to work on her own - and was an Avon Lady for over 40 years – this was her career and not just a pass time. During that time she won numerous awards, wonderful trips, and high recognition for her accomplishments. But more that all the awards was the many friends she made over the years – friends that she would help through difficult times and listen to their problems.
Florida was a true family person – to her family was everything. She was so proud of and loved each one. A true people person, she was most happy when she was with family and friends. Prayer was ever present in her life – often she would speak of concern for someone and follow-up with the phrase that “she was going to pray for them”. And she did. She so enjoyed attending church services and when her health declined, she missed this.
The ultimate giver, Florida, truly enjoyed giving to others. Not just on special days – all the time. She remembered birthdays, sent cards, gave gifts, and wrote meaningful messages to her loved ones. She was a devoted mother, daughter, aunt, sister, and a loyal friend and confidant. She cared for others. She was so loved and will be so missed.
