LAKELAND - Emerson B. Saunders Jr., 75, passed away Jan. 16, 2015, at home, following a long illness with heart and respiratory complications. Born in New Haven, CT, Mr. Saunders moved to Lakeland in 1990. He had worked as an inspector in quality control for 14 years with Digital Equipment Corp. in Holyoke, MA. After coming to Lakeland, he and his family owned Capt. Orange in the old Lakeland Mall for several years, before joining VISTE as a driver. He enjoyed computers, talking on his CB, and spending time working on his house and yard. During the late 1950's, he served with the U.S. Navy for four years. He leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Mary Rita Saunders; children. Karen Thans, Amy Kosinski (Mark), Emerson III (Natasha), Stephanie Green (Stephen), David (Amy), and Tina Depledge (Darren); brothers, Bruce and Bob; sisters, Judy Ronk and Debra Booze; 22 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; brother and sister in laws, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emerson and Sarah, and a brother, Ronald. Friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday from 10-11AM at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home at Serenity Gardens, 3350 Mall Hill Dr., Lakeland. The funeral service will begin at 11AM. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either Cornerstone Hospice or Wounded Warriors.
