Elsie Gandy Entzminger
Elsie was born January 4, 1929, in Moultrie, Georgia to Lear and James “Dud” Godwin. They moved to the Lakeland area when she was fourteen years old. She passed away July 3, 2024, surrounded by family & loving friends.
Elsie attended Medulla School and graduated from Mulberry High School in 1947. She was an active member of Mulberry United Methodist Church in Mulberry, Florida, and enjoyed working in the Thrift Shop there. She was a member of Mulberry Chapter No. 57, Order of the Eastern Star for over 60 years. She served as Worthy Grand Matron of Florida in 1992-1993, and then as a General Grand Chapter Committee member in 1997-2000.
She was preceded in death by her husbands Richard A. Gandy and Jimmy Entzminger; her parents, Lear and James Godwin; her brother, R.E. Godwin; her son, Richard “Rick” Gandy; and her sister, Mary Godwin Pigg.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Gandy Owen, brother-in-law, Lawrence Pigg as well as several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Gentry Morrison, Serenity Gardens Chapel, on Monday, July 8, 2024. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, services to follow at 10:00 AM. After the services, a fellowship will be held in the reception room of the funeral home. Those who wish to accompany the family to the graveside are invited to join the procession. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Dogs, Inc. (formerly Southeastern Guide Dogs) or Good Shephard Hospice.
