Reverend Elmer Lloyd Powell, 90
LAKELAND - Rev. Elmer Lloyd Powell, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Lakeland with his family by his side. Rev Powell was born July 14, 1925 in Blytheville, Arkansas.
Elmer served his country in the US Navy during World War II as a gunner in the amphibious forces.
Rev. Powell was an ordained credentialed minister with the General Council of the Assemblies of God. He attended North Central University in Minneapolis, MN and served as senior pastor for over 60 years in Illinois, before relocating to Lakeland, FL in 2013.
Rev. Powell was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Carrie (Turner) Powell; wife, Eleanor May (Ritchey) Powell; great grandson, Bryson Alexander Dobbs. He is survived by son, Steven L (Kathryn) Powell of Lakeland, FL and daughter, Annette C Hogan of Odell, IL; five grandchildren, Julie Dobbs of Lakeland, FL, Harold Ray Hogan (Michele Brewick) of Coal City, IL, Phillip (Shannon) Powell of Indianapolis, IN, Kristi Jo Hogan (Matthew Huff) of Cumming, GA and Stephanie Powell of Lakeland, FL; eight great grandchildren, Taylor and Andrew Powell, Dylan, Sydney and Kalyn Hogan, Landon Dobbs,
Savanna Jo and Mason Huff.
Our family would like to express our love and appreciation to the nurses and staff of Grace Manor Assisted Living Facility where Elmer made his home for the past 2 years. Thank you to the wonderful nurses and staff of Good Shepherd Hospice for their tender and compassionate care of our father during his final hours.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at Victory Church Chapel of Lights, Lakeland, FL with a celebration of life service to follow at 10:30 am.
Interment will be Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 11:00 am at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. The family is being served by Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, Lakeland, FL
