Edward Alan Piper's Obituary
Edward Alan Piper was born on September 21, 1948 and died on August 6, 2015 after a fight with gastric cancer. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jan Hamby Piper, his children Jennifer Piper Testerman (Jeff Testerman) of Cumming , Georgia, Erika Dawn Piper (Mark Burrell) of Old Fort, Tennessee, and Edward Andrew Piper, of Winter Haven, Florida. He is also survived by his brother Philip Piper (Lynda Piper) of Foley, Alabama, and a host of friends.
Ed served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Enterprise during the Vietnam War. He worked as a District Circulation Manager at The Atlanta Journal Constitution. After moving to Alabama, Ed and his wife opened Pied Piper Glassworks, a stained and leaded glass manufacturing business that soon became the largest stained glass production house in Alabama. During this time Ed also owned and operated the local True Value Hardware store and kept a real estate license which he used to grow an inventory of commercial buildings which he rented and sold. He served as the leader of Boy Scout troop 22. He served as the President of the Childersburg Chamber of Commerce three times. He was the President of The Childersburg Education Foundation, and was a member of Kiwanis. He was active in his churches, First United Methodist Church and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, both of Childersburg, Alabama. After moving to the Bartow/Lakeland area Ed was a successful Realtor with Keller Williams of Lakeland where he most recently served as compliance officer. He was beloved by so many and will leave a positive impression on all who knew him.
