EDITH ELIZABETH POLK,
61 LAKELAND-
Edith Elizabeth Polk, age 61 departed this life on July 29, 2015, as a result of early onset Alzheimer's. A native of Lakeland, Florida, she was born August 1, 1953, and was preceded in death by her beloved parents Edwina R. and Virgil I. Polk. Edith was valedictorian of the 1971 class of Lakeland High School. She graduated with a B.A. degree in film and media from the University of South Florida. In 1978, she moved to Alaska where she worked as a filmmaker, writer, social worker and commercial fisherman. Her pastimes included voracious reading and pursuing her interests as pilot, artist, musician and competitive long distance runner. Edith loved all animals, especially horses which she rode in competition. She is survived by several first cousins. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at Lakeland Terrace Hotel, Mezzanine level, Saturday (today) from 4:00 - 6:00pm. Arrangements by Gentry Morrison Cremation Center.
