Douglas MacArthur King Sr's Obituary
Douglas MacArthur King Sr. 81, a veteran passed away on January 13, 2024 peacefully at his home in Lakeland, FL surrounded by his loving family. The son of James and Mary (Albritton) King. He is proceeded in death by his loving wife of 62 years Kathleen Goodwin King. Douglas was born on March 30, 1942 in Bowling Green FL. After graduating from Hardee High School in 1960 Douglas enlisted into the Navy and served his country proudly for four years aboard the USS Kiowa ATF-72. While on leave, Douglas met and married his wife Kathleen in just four short days. They went on a journey together and started a family. Douglas worked at US steel as a laborer and attended Travis Vo Tech at night to pursue a career as a master electrician. For 25 years, Douglas owned and operated King’s Electric, upon retiring his business, Douglas stayed in the electrical field as an industrial electrician, and retired from the City of Bartow with 22 years of service. Douglas is survived by his daughter, Polly Ann McKenzie. Son, Douglas MacArthur King Jr (Cathy King), 4 grandchildren, Chelsea Howard, (Tytus Howard), Timothy Godwin (Christina Collins), Kaitlyn King, Alexis King, and 4 great grandchildren, Willow Howard, Kinsley Godwin, T.J. Howard, Wrenley Howard. Douglas is also proceeded in death by his parents James C. King and Mary (Albritton) King, sisters Polly King and Linda Reas, and 3 living brother and sisters, Donald Kilpatrick (Cathy), Ronald Kilpatrick, sister Elise Bearce (Bob) and Alton Kilpatrick (Stacey), and lots of nieces and nephews.
In the 81 years that Douglas lived, he was so many things to so many people. He was a son, a brother, a hero, a husband, a dad, a papa, an uncle and a friend. Douglas truly had a heart of gold, always looking out for others, lending a listening ear, or his arms for a hug. Douglas wasn’t just present; he was fully present 100% of the time. Douglas didn’t just live for his happiness but for the happiness of others. He will be deeply missed.
