Dorothy A. (Royes-Bascoe) Campbell
LAKELAND - Dorothy A. Campbell, 65, passed away on August 17, 2015, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center after more than an 8 year battle with cancer. Dorothy was born Dorothy Royes in St. Ann, Jamaica where she lived the earlier years of her life. She taught for years before she became the Principal of the York Castle All Age School in 1979. She migrated to Lakeland from Jamaica in 1990, where she worked with people with disabilities at Wheelhouse (now Sunrise) and Community Opportunities. Her love for teaching brought her back to college where she pursued her Bachelors degree in Education. Upon completion of her degree in 2002, she earned a position to teach 3rd grade at Southwest Elementary School where she served with enthusiasm, diligence and pride for 13 years until her death. Mrs. Campbell is survived by her husband, Kingsley; children, Bernice a.k.a Joan and Cheryll; stepchildren, Dian, Niesha, and Susan; grandchildren, Kimberlee and EJ; step grandchildren; Malik and Sebastian; siblings, Waldron, Oswald, Roy, Mary (Ray), David (Maureen), Cynthia (Noel), Carmen, and Madge. Also by nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives, friends, co-workers, students, and past students.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at the Victory Church, 1401 Griffin Road, Lakeland, Florida 33810, with funeral services to follow at 11:00am. Burial will be at Serenity Gardens, 3350 Mall Hill Drive, immediately following the service. Fri-ends and family are invited to a reception following the graveside services at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, 3350 Mall Hill Drive.
