Lakeland – Doris Melton Bowden, 91, died peacefully of natural causes Dec. 16, 2017.
She was a lifelong resident of Lakeland, and member of Main Street Baptist Church. She worked as a sectionizer for many years, prior to her retirement from Florida Tile.
Mrs. Bowden was preceded in death by her parents, James and Rillie Huggins; first husband, William Howard Melton and second husband, Colon B. Bowden, Jr. Doris was the last living child of James and Rillie Huggins’ 13 children, having been preceded in death by her 12 siblings. She is survived by her son Terry (Gaye) Melton; daughter, Deborah (Mitch) Lind; grandchildren, Mitchell Ryan Lind and Garrett James (Loren) Lind.
Graveside services will be conducted Thurs. at 1 pm at Lakeland Memorial Gardens. The family wishes to thank Highlands Lake Center, Lakeland Regional Health Palliative Care and Good Shepherd Hospice for their devoted care.
