Donald Lain's Obituary
Donald Lain, 88, passed away at home, just after midnight on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.
Donald was born on May 21, 1935 to parents Curtis and Rosa Belle (Sutton) Lain. Donald was born and lived his entire life in Lakeland, FL. He graduated from Lakeland High school in 1954 and was the Vice-President of his class. Soon afterwards, Donald was called from the Army Reserves to active duty. He served during the Korean War as a Sergeant in the US Army in the automotive repair and maintenance unit. After his time of service, Donald returned to Lakeland where he met his future wife, Betty “Ann” Adams. Donald and Ann were married in 1959 and celebrated 64 years of marriage in January.
Donald’s career was spent repairing cars at his business, Donald Lain’s Auto Service, on Crestview Avenue, across the street from his childhood home. Donald closed his shop in 1997 and retired to a home on Lake Gibson where he spent lots of time gardening and fishing. He was well-known in the North Lakeland community and was a member of Kathleen Baptist Church for 50 years. He loved Jesus, enjoyed his Sunday School class, and served the church in many roles, including Trustee.
Throughout his life Donald enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and had a passionate love for his wife Ann, his family, and his Boston Terrier dogs.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents Curtis and Rosa Belle Lain, his sister Martha Green, and his grandson Ryan Lain.
He is survived by his wife Ann; son David (Cristal) Lain, son Michael (Jenny) Lain, son Tim (Aileen) Lain; daughter Sherri (Rick) Bornstine; siblings Ray Lain and Linda (Hosie) O’steen; 14 grandchildren Ashley (Tyler) Davis, Hunter (Brianna) Lain, Jacob Lain, Hope Lain, Jedidiah Lain, Malachi (Kealey) Lain, Justin (Rachel) Lain, Katelyn Lain, Joanna Lain, Hilary Lain, Nathan (Margaret) Lain, Emily Lain, Nicholas Bornstine, Carly Bornstine; and 11 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 27, 2023 from 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM, followed by funeral service at 11:00 AM, at Kathleen Baptist Church, 3939 2nd St NW, Lakeland, FL 33810
Burial will follow funeral services at Socrum Cemetery in North Lakeland.
