LAKELAND - Don C. Gilbert, age 88, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014, due to pneumonia. Don was born to Clifford and Esther Gilbert on March 19, 1926, in Toledo, Ohio. He resided in Walbridge, Ohio, throughout his young life, and entered the United States Navy upon graduation from high school. After two years of active duty in the Mediterranean Sea and Pacific Ocean, he returned to enroll in college at Olivet Nazarene University. He graduated with honors in l950 with a Business Administration Degree. Mr. Gilbert worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. for 40 years, retiring to Hendersonville, NC, in 1989 with his wife, Carol. They relocated to Lakeland, Fl, 5 years later, where they lived until his death. He was an active member of Highland Park Church.
Mr. Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Annabelle Watson and Marilyn Haldy. He is survived by his wife, Carol, sons Lon and Tim, daughter Onna Marie, stepson Mike, 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 3 nephews and 2 nieces.
Viewing will be held at Highland Park Church at 5:00pm on Monday, April 7th with the service to follow at 7:00pm. Don will be interred at Florida National Cemetery.
