Dolores Ann Shoop's Obituary
Dolores Ann Shoop, loving and caring mother, adopted grandmother and friend went to her heavenly home on July 21, 2025. She passed away peacefully in Lakeland, Florida at the age of 90. Dolores is survived by her daughter, Joy Cheatham and her husband Dana; her son Craig Shoop and his wife Michelle; her brother in law Jack Mead and 2 nieces. She was adored by her great niece and nephew Olivia and Coleman Armstrong. She was deeply loved and cherished by her adopted family; Alex and Rebecca Lamvol and their children Sophia, Annette, Oliver and her best friend Theo (11).
Dolores is proceeded in death by her father, Ralph Alexander Henk and her mother Laura Ann Henk; Her brother Harold Henk and his wife Sally; her sister Jane Mead and 3 nephews.
She was born in Butler County, Pennsylvania on October 15, 1934. She also lived in Syracuse, Cleveland, Chicago, Connecticut and Florida. She had a love of learning and attended the University of Pittsburgh. She retired from GE where she was employed for 23 years. A member of Black Rock Congregational Church in Fairfield, Connecticut she served on the Mission Board for 11 years. Dolores had a great love for world missions and participated in eight short-term mission trips to Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Peru, Ecuador, Austria and Croatia where she ministered to refugees one mile from the front lines of the Croatia and Bosnian war. She sang in the choir for over 20 years and served as a Deaconess. She cherished serving in the nursery at Black Rock Congregational Church where she would meet a family that so beautifully changed her life forever. She volunteered her time at the Bridgeport Rescue Mission, where to the ladies delight she would bring home baked cookies every week.
Dolores enjoyed traveling, reading, writing and walking outdoors, especially on the beach in the sunshine. She loved the rain and fine china. She relished day trips exploring the state of Connecticut. Dolores loved Pepe’s Pizza and Haggen-Dazs Chocolate Coffee Chip ice cream. She was happiest when she was spending time with her children and friends. She had a beautiful smile that she was well known for. Most of all she took great pleasure in serving and giving to others.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Black Rock Congregational Church in the fall of 2025.
