Lakeland - Dawn Halleen passed away peacefully on March 17, 2015. She was born on September 2, 1933 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and resided in Michigan until she married Robert M. Halleen in 1955 in Ann Harbor. They moved to the state of Washington where she was a faculty wife who taught Bridge to the WSU faculty wives group.
After helping her husband get his PhD at Stanford she spent the next twenty five years in Peoria, Illinois, where she completed the raising of four children - Roger and wife, Barbara [East Peoria], Kathryn [Elk City, OK], Phillip and wife Jackie [Peoria, AZ] and Jennifer [Marquette Hts, IL]. The current "love of her life" are her four grandchildren - Andrew, Amy, Casey and Rhiannon.
Her active volunteer life included Hospital service in Peoria and Lafayette, IN., School Board Treasurer for eight years in Peoria and continuous Church work, including St. Paul Lutheran of Lakeland, throughout her sixty years of marriage to Robert.
She also served in many officer positions in her over fifty years of membership in Beta Sigma Phi; her last eleven years with Torchbearer Alpha Chapter of Lakeland.
Her strong faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ, never wavered in spite of many serious health problems throughout her later years - COPD, A-Fib, Macular Degeneration, severe spinal Arthritis and loss of hearing. She will be deeply missed by many with her passing.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Harden Blvd in Lakeland at 11:00 am, with a luncheon to follow. Memorials in lieu of flowers should be designated for either Parkinson's or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
