Daniel K. Meservey's Obituary
Daniel K. Meservey, 79, of Chatham, MA and Polk City, FL.
Daniel K. Meservey passed away at Lakeland Regional Hospital on February 17th, 2022 with his loving family by his side. Daniel K. Meservey was born on March 16th 1942 to the late Roy B. and Dorothea Meservey. Daniel graduated from Chatham High School and went on to graduate from Burdett College. There he met the love of his life, wife of 58 years, Sharon Foster.
Dan and Sharon married in 1964 and settled down in his hometown of Chatham where they would raise their three children Lisa, Daniel and Douglas. Working many years side by side with his father Roy at the family business Meservey's Service Station, Dan would eventually own and operate the business with his own children and grandchildren. Over the years Dan operated many local businesses with his family. His strong work ethic and love of people made Dan a well known and well loved part of the community. Dan served on many town committees and was a selectman in the 1980's.
For the past sixteen years Dan and Sharon have called Mount Olive Shores North in Polk City, FL their second home. Dan could often be heard saying how amazing it was that they had found this wonderful community to be a part of. The countless special friendships that they formed there felt as if they had known one another forever.
Dan is perhaps best known for his passion for auto racing. Over his career he has raced at tracks around the country and as far away as Scotland. He founded the New England Pro Four Modifieds which currently races throughout New England. From racing at Daytona International Speedway to operating Lakeville Speedway Dan has made numerous friendships along the way. Dan was inducted into the New England Auto Racing Hall of Fame in 2011. Without a doubt his proudest racing moments were spent competing on the track with his sons and grandsons.
Dan leaves behind wife Sharon, daughter Lisa A. Fortin and husband Peter of Chatham, MA, son Daniel J. Meservey and wife Kristina of Brewster, MA, and son Douglas R. Meservey of Harwich ,MA; as well as his seven grandchildren all of whom he simply adored.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday March 27th from 1 to 4 PM at Mount Olive Shores North Clubhouse 2, Polk City,FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dan can be made to: The Daniel K. Meservey Memorial Scholarship Fund of The Cape Cod Foundation to support educational scholarships for local students.
