Conrad Capeland III's Obituary
Conrad Charles Capeland, III, Age 83 of Lakeland, Florida, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ while surrounded by his loving family on October 16, 2025.
Conrad was born on October 16, 1942, in Hackensack, New Jersey, to Mildred and Conrad Charles Capeland, Junior. He married Marjorie “Margie” Taylor of Vineland, New Jersey, the love of his life, on February 8, 1964. He proudly served in the United States Army then continued his career as a computer engineer until retiring to Florida where he worked with his wife as cruise consultants.
His marriage was a beautiful picture of Christ’s love. Conrad and Margie served together in church for their entire marriage, most recently helping lead the Oasis senior ministry at Calvary Baptist Church for the past fourteen years. His favorite pastime was cruising with his wife and friends and family visiting ports around the world. He made precious memories while on over one hundred cruises.
Conrad firmly believed in God and loved his family and country. Known for his generous heart, kind spirit and quiet humor, he never hesitated to help anyone. It was always said that if Conrad can’t fix it, it can’t be fixed. He preferred to work behind the scenes and was the wind beneath Margie’s wings. More than anything, he loved Jesus with his whole heart. He faithfully prayed every day for his wife, and each of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren by name. He was a Godly example to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Conrad is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Marjorie. Survived by his children Cynthia Buchanan (Glenn), Caroline Hample (Stephen), and Conrad “Chad” Capeland, IV (April). Survived by his 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Survived by his sister Mildred Hoover (James). Preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Conrad Capeland, Junior, and his sister Dorothy Cooke.
Visitation will be held on November 3, 2025, from 9:00AM to 9:55AM at Calvary Baptist Church, 4209 Old Kathleen Road, Lakeland, Florida, followed by a funeral service from 10:00AM to 11:00AM. A private burial with the family will immediately follow. A memorial service will be held in New Jersey at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for a donation to Lauren Tipáz and her family. Conrad supported his niece, Lauren and her husband Alejandro along with their children, Caroline and Benjamin, who have faithfully served in Guatemala for many years. They build safe homes for families living in poverty and give medical and spiritual care to pregnant moms and their families. Donations can be made to Calvary Baptist Church with “Conrad Capeland Memorial” written on the memo line. All donations will be sent to Lauren and her family. Please mail checks to Calvary Baptist Church, 4209 Old Kathleen Road, Lakeland, Florida, 33810.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16
