Charles L. Wheatley's Obituary
Charles L. Wheatley passed away on
June 3, 2021 at his home in Lakeland,
Florida. Charles was born in Syracuse,
New York on November 5, 1933. He
was a graduate of North Syracuse High
School (1951), The SUNY College of
Environmental Science and Forestry
(1959) and Syracuse University (1961)
where he earned his Masters Degree in
Education. Charles served in the U.S.
Army as a Water Engineering Specialist
in Germany. He then went on to
become a high school biology teacher
at North Syracuse Central School
district for 28 years. Mr. Wheatley
taught at both North Syracuse High
School (1961-1967) and Cicero (CNS)
High School (1967 to 1988).
Charles lived a life of passion and enthusiasm. He was a dedicated teacher to his
students, children and grandchildren. Charles was committed to bringing
awareness, appreciation and protection of the Monarch Butterfly. For many years
he lived with his family on Oneida Lake and was a water, boating and outdoor
enthusiast. Throughout his life he was passionate about exercising, living a healthy
lifestyle and developing his spirituality through prayer, meditation, reading and
attending the Episcopal Church. Most importantly, Charles was a passionate, loving
and devoted husband to his wife, Beckie, of 62 years. He was always greatly
appreciative of her love, care and understanding especially in his final years of life.
Charles was also a devoted and loving father to his daughters, son-in-laws,
grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all those who
knew and loved him.
Charles is predeceased by his parents Alice (Allen) Wheatley, Charles W. Wheatley
and his sister Marilyn (Wheatley) Ward. He is survived by his loving wife, Blanche
(Aldrich) Wheatley, his children, Theresa (Gary) Devennie, Lisa (Scott) Sammon, his
grandchildren, Jeffrey (Erin) Devennie, Brian (Meredith) Devennie, Laura (Colton)
Kelley and Keara Sammon, and his great grand children, Liam, Colin, Ella and Owen
Devennie, and his brother, David (Carol) Wheatley and brother in law, Jimmy (Bev) Aldrich. We all feel so blessed to have had such a wonderful man in our lives.
