LAKELAND - Mr. Charles O. Herbert, 80, born February 17, 1934, died due to renal failure, the evening of November 17, 2014, in the comfort of his home and surrounded by loved ones. Mr. Herbert was a pioneer in the recycled pallet industry. He worked for 20 years for Terminal Paper Bag, prior to starting his own business, CJ Pallet Co. in Jacksonville, FL. He later relocated the business to Lakeland in 1981, and continued to operate the company with his wife Elizabeth for 36 years, until they retired in 2006.
Mr. Herbert is survived by his wife of 33 years, Elizabeth and seven children: Roy Herbert, Patty Slappey, Linda VanGundy, Mark Herbert, William Harper, Lisa Garcia and Cindy Blaeuer; 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, a great great granddaughter, a brother Lloyd Herbert, and nephew Doug Herbert. He was preceded in death by a daughter Brenda Manasco in 2005. Friends are invited to the visitation on Friday, Nov. 21 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, 3350 Mall Hill Dr., followed by the funeral service beginning at 11:00 am.
