Lakeland – Charles “Buddy” Simmons, 77, passed away at home and earned his wings on Aug. 3, 2018.
He was born in Samson, AL on June 29, 1941. He is survived by Jackie Simmons, the love of his life. They would have celebrated 54 years of marriage on the 29th of August. He worked for Mosaic as a crane operator for 50 years, and served in the Army. Buddy was an avid fan of both Alabama "Roll Tide" and NASCAR. He was of the Baptist faith, and attended Church at the Mall.
Buddy was preceded in death by his mother, Alma Simmons; father, Chester Simmons; step mother, Agnes Simmons; brother, Joe Simmons; and numerous step siblings. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Michelle Coffey; son, Derek Simmons; sisters, Doris Barley (Lavaughn) and Sylvia Alford (Ken); step sisters, Carolyn Roberts and Helen Jerrell; step brother, Wayne Ritter; grandchildren, Brad West, Kyle Simmons, Anne Simmons, Brittany Simmons and Joseph Simmons; great grandchildren, Jayda Manns-Simmons, Vershawn Manns and Noah Simmons, whom he loved very much.
Visitation will be Wed. from 6-8 pm at Gentry Morrison Southside Chapel, 1727 Bartow Rd. Lakeland. Funeral services will be Thurs. at 10 am at the funeral home, followed by interment at Oak Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charles Simmons honor to the Alzheimer’s Association.
