Carl David Burkholder's Obituary
Carl David Burkholder, of Lakeland, FL, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2019. He passed peacefully at Good Shepherd Hospice Center after a five year battle with Cancer, including Merkle Cell Carcinoma and Lung cancer. Carl was born September 26, 1944 in Portland, Indiana to Harry and Pearl (Naomi) Burkholder. He graduated from Jay County High School, 1962. From there he continued his education at Ball State University, Muncie, IN. It was here in 1972, He earned his BS Degree in Accounting. Carl had a long career in Purchasing including a position with Teledyne Portland Forge in IN. Then moving to Lakeland, FL in 1979, he accepted a position at AMEX. In 1987, Carl was hired as the Director of Purchasing for Corporate Operations with PRIDE Enterprises. He was promoted to Furniture Division Materials Manager in 1999. As Manufacturing Manager, he oversaw the day-to-day operations of the Seating and Panel industries at Polk Correctional Institution. After 31 years as a great asset to the PRIDE team where he was an inspiration to everyone who worked with him, Carl retired in 2018. After retiring, Carl continued to be an inspiration to all his Family and Friends, including his Church Family at Victory Church. Carl is survived by his loving wife of almost 57 years, Lorna Eger Burkholder; Son, David Burkholder (Rhonda); Grandchildren, Natasha Restuccia (Phil) of Gainesville; Cory Burkholder (Amber); Great Grandkids, Emmilou, Harper, McCoy, Henry, and Ellimay; Sisters, Maxine Lewis, Portland, IN and Carolyn Payne (Tony), Indianapolis, IN; Sister-in-law, Jenny Burkholder, St. Pete. Along with his Parents, Carl is proceeded in death by his brothers, Larry Burkholder and Donald Burkholder; Sister, Mary Lou Jacobs. Services will be held, Friday, Aug. 30, 2019 at Victory Church in the Chapel. Visitation will be at 1:00 with Service following at 2:00. Carl’s family would like to thank everyone who has shown Love to Carl and his family during this difficult time. Special Thanks to Dr. Russell, Moffitt Cancer Center’s wonderful Doctors, Nurses, and Associates, and Good Shepherd Hospice Staff. In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made to Moffitt Cancer Center. Carl will be forever in our hearts as a loving Husband, Father, Papaw and Friend.
