Barbara A. Elliott's Obituary
Barbara Ann Elliott, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Lakeland Regional Health with family and friends around her. She was born on July 11, 1931 to Harvey and Verna Dennis in Columbus, Georgia. She had one older brother, Harvey Dennis, who has preceded her in death.
Barbara grew up in Columbus, Georgia. There she met a young Army soldier Robert J. Elliott at 8th Street Assembly of God. Their first date was riding together to an evening church service. They later married on November 23, 1951 after Bob returned from Central Bible College. Their life of ministry started immediately at a pastorate in Albany, Georgia. They later pastored churches in Shellman, Georgia and Pearson, Georgia.
While in Pearson, Georgia, their only child was born after 8 ½ years of marriage. Robert Wayne Elliott entered their lives on May 25, 1960.
When they relocated to Southeastern Bible College, Lakeland, Florida, Barbara worked part-time as a librarian at Florida Southern College. Her involvement with campus life at Southeastern included hosting dinners for students, attending faculty wives club activities and faculty fellowships. She was known as a mother figure to many of the female student body, loving them while they were away from their homes. She always had a smiling face and a listening ear.
Barbara organized parties, dinners and socials for the Sunday School class she and Bob lead. She had a gift of making people feel welcomed and a part of any event she hosted. No one was a stranger.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Robert J. Elliott (Bob), son Robert Wayne Elliott, daughter-in-law Deborah Elliott, two grandsons Robert Wayne Elliott II, Ryan David Elliott and his wife, Nicole Elliott.
