Arthur "Art" Arakelian's Obituary
Arthur “Art” Arakelian, 85, passed away at Lakeland Regional Hospital on August 4, 2022.
Art was born in Lawrence MA on April 27, 1937, the son of Bagdasar and Marian (Sarkisian) Arakelian. Art leaves behind his wife of 56 years Marian (Tahmizian) Arakelian and their sons Richard, his wife Lisa Anne Arakelian and Jason, his wife Diane Arakelian, his grandchildren Jason, Joshua, Matthew and twins Emily and Faith.
Art graduated from Tenney High School in Methuen MA, 1955. After high school graduation, Art attended a pharmacy school in Boston, MA. He also attended MIT and Northeastern University while working as a Quality Control Engineer at Western Electric and Digital Equipment Corporation. He became a partner in TV sales and repair for Superior TV in Nashua, NH. He has worked a myriad of jobs throughout his life including Raytheon, Sanders Associates, Magnavox, Kollsman Instruments and Chick-Fil-A.
On September 4, 1966, Art married the love of his life Marian Tahmizian. Art has lived in various places throughout his life from Massachusetts where he was born to New Hampshire, Texas and New Jersey until settling in Florida in 2006, his favorite state.
Art loved and enjoyed serving people. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ, his family and friends. He was always willing to help others. He attended Holy Cross Armenian Apostolic Church in Lawrence, MA, Bethel Baptist Church in Hudson, NH, served as head usher at Grace Outreach Center in Plano, TX, served as usher in Gloucester County Community Church in Sewell, NJ, and most recently ushered at Victory Church in Lakeland, FL.
Art enjoyed sharing his God-given wisdom with others and became a Stephan minister and counseled many hurting people.
Art was known for his hearty laugh. He enjoyed gardening, a trait he inherited as a farm boy on the Arakelian Farm. He liked to watch ice hockey, football and baseball. He was an avid car owner, his favorite cars being Buick, Mercury and Lincoln. He lived by the adage his father, Bagdasar Arakelian, used to say “If he takes care of a woman like he does his car, he’ll have no problems!” and always meticulously maintained and loved driving his cars.
Most of all, Art loved his family dearly, was loving, supporting and helping them. He was a family-oriented man and valued his loved ones over everything else.
He is also survived by his sister Dorothy (Arakelian) Deeran widow of the late Paul Deeran; his brother John Arakelian and his wife Betty; sister-in-law Elaine Tahmizian Meuse and her husband, Jed as well as several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Services to be held at Riverside Assembly of God Church in Methuen, MA on October 22, 2022 at 11am. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen, MA. Services in Lakeland, FL will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Art’s name to the Salvation Army.
