So many memories! Even though Annie was my brother's wife, I was about the same age as her 2 eldest kids. I grew up with them and my family was always visiting so we kids could play.
I remember Annie always being a part of my life. She was sweet, kind, fun and just a real pleasure to be around.
Back in the 1960's Tillman and Annie took the family to Six Gun Territory (A theme park up near Silver Springs and Ocala which had a western theme. I don't even think it is around today). They invited my family to go with them. My dad and I decided to go. We never went on vacations, so this was a real treat for me. Anita,Terry and I must have been around 5 or 6 years old. I remember being so excited and couldn't wait for the big day to go on our trip. It felt like going to a different country almost for me since I never went much further than the county we lived in. I remember having so much fun that day! I believe we even got to see Ron Howard (Opie, from the Andy Griffith Show. This was after Andy Griffith Show and before he starred on Happy Days). Ron Howard was a guest star at Six Gun that day. Annie and my brother allowed us just enough space to have fun but kept a close, watchful eye on us to make sure we were safe.
I remember going camping with the family and having great times (again, my family never took vacations. So, these were the only little vacations I had as a kid).
I mostly remember all the family get-togethers we had. My parents and siblings used to take turns hosting the family get-togethers (usually on special holidays). All the families would bring a dish (or 2 or 3 or 4. We always had sooo much food). All the women in the family were really great cooks and cooked some fantastic southern dishes! One of my favorite dishes that Annie would make was her home made collard greens. I love collard greens but, Annie's were the absolute best! I have never tasted any other collard greens as good as hers.
Annie was a huge part of my life growing up. I will always keep her in my thoughts and memories.
Annie, go rest high on that mountain with my brother, Tillman
I love you and will miss you dearly.
