Alice Marian Entrekin's Obituary
Alice Marian (Munson) Entrekin
August 20, 1927 – July 8, 2016
LAKELAND - Alice Marian (Munson) Entrekin was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Harry Vernon Munson and Helen Mae Dunn. She was one of four children, three girls and one boy. (Gene, Lorriane, Alice, Ardis). She married Sheldon (Don) Entrekin on September 15, 1945. She was the mother to four children; Steven Eugene Entrekin, Lester Lee Entrekin, Craig Lee Entrekin, and Dawn Rene (Entrekin) Polk; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Alice was a great story teller and earned the nickname “Windy Bill” when she was young due to her penchant for telling tall tales. In fact the name “Bill” was how she was frequently referred to by friends and family from that time on. At a very early age she could be found on the family farm sitting on a pile of stones singing about the non-existent rattlesnake that resided in the stone pile. She heeded the call of “Rosie the Riveter” and offered her services as a laborer in support of the war effort during World War II. It was after the war that Alice’s brother Gene while stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Base, brought home his good friend and fellow soldier Don Entrekin on furlough where he met Alice and they began dating. Not long after Don and Alice were married. Don and Alice moved to Florida in 1955. Alice then worked in a packing house as a citrus sectionizer. In 1957 Alice began working for Publix Supermarkets starting in the egg candeling room, moving then to produce pre-pack. She then spent the remainder of her 35 and a half year career in the print shop where she made great life-long friends whom she loved dearly. After having three sons she would often remark that her boys would end up driving her to Chattahoochee (where the state mental hospital was located). A few years after making this observation she was driving through Chattahoochee when she was reminded by her sons that they did not end up driving her there, she ended up driving herself. Her husband Don passed away in 1979 and Alice never remarried or even dated another person.
