Obituary

Varda Rotenberg (née Brombrot), beloved mother, nurse, and witness to history, passed away on April 29, 2026, in Winter Haven, Florida, at the age of 90. She was born on September 13, 1935, near Tel Aviv, in what was then British Mandatory Palestine, and came of age during the founding of the modern State of Israel. As a teenager she lived through the 1948 War of Independence, and was present in Tel Aviv for the United Nations announcement of Israeli statehood. She served in the Israeli Army in the years that followed, where she trained as a nurse and had the distinction of meeting Eleanor Roosevelt.

Varda immigrated to the United States around 1960, settling in Philadelphia where she met and married Aharon Rotenberg, built her career, and raised her family. She worked for 40 years as a registered nurse in cardiac and intensive care units in Philadelphia and later in Winter Haven, where she and Aharon relocated in 1998. She was preceded in death by her husband Aharon, who passed away in 2005. She is survived by her brother Jacob Brombrot, sister-in-law Tsvia Brombrot, her sons Victor Rotenberg and Eli Rotenberg, daughter-in-law Susanna Gordon, and grandchildren Jeremy and Rebecca Rotenberg.
