Wayne called our home yesterday to tell us of Ruby's death. By fortunate coincidence, we were all together for the Jewish holiday, so we were able to console each other at this terribly sad time. Ruby took care of our home and family when our kids (Becca, Matt, and Sam) were growing up, and we all remember her with great love. Those "kids" are all grown and married now, with homes and careers of their own, and three children among them (plus another on the way), but the passage of time has done nothing to diminish our fondness for Ruby. One of our favorite memories of her concerns the time a terrible flu struck both parents and all three kids in our house at once. Besides working for us and other families, Ruby had a full-time job at the Stock Exchange, so the only day she had off from work was Sunday, which she usually spent in church. But when we were all sick she showed up unexpectedly on a Sunday morning at our house, just because she knew we needed someone to take care of us -- a truly Christian act of kindness.
We all miss her terribly, and we thank God for the gift of having had Ruby in our lives.
