Col Ross
Moen
July 2, 1939 – December 6, 2025
Colonel Ross Moen, a decorated war veteran, retired Los Angeles Police Department Lieutenant, and devoted community leader, passed away at the age of 86. Born on July 2, 1939, in Cushing, Oklahoma and grew up in Yermo, California. He served the public for 39 years with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), retiring as a Lieutenant of Police. His assignments included Patrol, Traffic, Juvenile, Detectives, Internal Affairs, Organized Crime Intelligence, and Terrorist and Bomb investigations. He particularly cherished his time as Commander of the Hollywood Detective Division. A proud soldier, Ross served 50 years in the California Army National Guard, Army Reserve, and State Military Reserve. He was commissioned in 1963 and was activated for the Vietnam War. From 1969 to 1970, he served in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division, commanding Headquarters Company and Company A during campaigns including the A Shau Valley ("Hamburger Hill"). His numerous decorations include the Combat Infantry Badge, Legion of Merit, and Bronze Star. Ross was active in numerous organizations, serving on the boards of Veterans groups, Service Clubs, Masons, Shriners and Elks, Cypress Lakes Veterans and Cypress Lakes Men's Golf Associations. He is survived by his wife Nancy, children Cyndee (Tim) Garcia, Kristine (Joram) Walters, Jeff (Rita) Marshall, Kimberley (Scott) Jackson and Scott (Christine) Marshall. 12 Grandchildren – Josh, Sara, Bethany, Noah, Deacon, Grace, PJ, Lewis, Nicholas, Maria, Alexander and Elizabeth. One great grandchild Lucy and his twin brother Rex. Many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father, John Moen Sr. his mother, Irene Moen, his brothers, John Moen Jr. and Jerry Moen; and his sister, Patsy Herren and his son-in-law Joram Walters. Visitation at Gentry Morrison Funeral Home will be held on Tuesday, December 16th from 10:30AM -11:30AM, followed by committal with military honors at Florida National Cemetery at 1:30PM. Celebration of Life will take place on January 16, 2026 from 11 to 2 at Cypress Lakes main hall.
