Rev Robert J. Elliott's Obituary
Robert J. Elliott, age 92, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2018 at Lakeland Regional Health. He was born January 20, 1926 in Brooks County, Georgia and was a resident of Lakeland, Florida for 50 years.
His family were sharecroppers, so he grew up doing farm work until he was inducted into the Army in late 1944 and fought at the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. After being discharged from the Army, he attended Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. After graduation he served as Assistant to Pastor Henry Collins at 8th Street Assembly of God in Columbus, Georgia. There he met and later married Barbara Dennis on November 23, 1951. Two years later they started Pastoral Ministry, pastoring three churches in Georgia. After Pastoral Ministry he was voted in as Youth and Sunday School Director of the State of Georgia through the Assemblies of God. He served for eight years and then was invited to join the Faculty and Staff at now South Eastern University where he retired with an Honorary Doctorate after serving 28 years.
His late wife Barbara, the love of his life of 65 years, precedes him in death by 17 months. Robert J. Elliott is survived by his and Barbara’s only son, Robert Wayne, his wife, Debbie, along with two wonderful grandson’s Robert (and Erica), and Ryan (and Nicole), all of Lakeland, Florida; a brother John Elliott of Barwick, Georgia and several nieces and nephews.
His family will receive friends on Friday, Dec. 21, 2018 at Victory Church, 1401 Griffin Rd, Lakeland, FL from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, followed by a funeral service beginning at 11:00 am. Mr. Elliott will be laid to rest with his wife at Serenity Gardens, 3350 Mall Hill Dr. Lakeland.
