Phyllis C. West, age 96, of Deland, FL (formerly of Lakeland, FL) passed away peacefully on June 27, 2024 at Alliance Community in Deland. FL. She was born on March 4, 1928, in Shannon, IL, the daughter of Max and Grace (Bender) Cheeseman. She married George West on June 18, 1949. During her life Phyllis enjoyed dancing with her beloved husband George, sharing 60 years of marriage until his death in March 2010. They cherished following various show bands while living in Rockford, IL and loved traveling together all over the United States and around the world. In 1993 she and George moved to the Silver Lakes Community in Lakeland, FL. During their years there Phyllis found joy in playing cards with her friends from the community and attending entertainment series at the Lakeland Community Center. Phyllis is survived by her sons, Steve (Sharon Hart) West of Celje, Slovenia and Randy (Lucy) West of Deland, FL; her grandchildren Eric West, Jonathon West, Brandon West and Brittany West; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George and her brothers Gordon and Max Cheeseman. A private graveside service will be held at Serenity Gardens in Lakeland, FL.
