Obituary

Akkamyalil Kuriakose Philip (Chachen) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Philip Kuriakose on October 2, 2024, at the age of 83. Philip was a beloved father, son, brother, grandfather, friend, teacher, and a loving husband. Born in Manjoor on September 6th, 1941 into Akkamyalil family, he earned his Bachelor's in Education from Nirmala College, Muvattupuzha. He started his career as a high school teacher–focusing on math and physics–and taught for 30 years until retiring at the age of 56. He then moved to the United States with his children in 1996 to continue to be close to them and support them in their careers and adulthood. For the rest of his life, he resided in Lakeland, Florida near his youngest son, Rengit. There, he made many great friends and became very well respected within the community, fondly referred to as " Philip Sir." Philip was a fixture in the home and in the community, always there to offer advice or reassurance. He loved to talk with his family and friends, constantly asking them about their lives or work. Maintaining close ties with his children and grandchildren, he prioritized being present in their lives. He would ask about his grandchildren's schools, always being the first one to congratulate them about an achievement. He was extremely loving, putting the needs and happiness of others (especially his family's) before his own. His gentle demeanor was a source of comfort for everyone around him. He was very rational and he approached everything with a plan. Never one to lose his temper, he always found the good in others, embodying exceptional forgiveness and serving as a role model for his children and grandchildren. With a witty sense of humor, laughter followed him into every room. Every morning, determined to stick to a routine, he and his wife, Kuttyamma, would tend to their plentiful garden, and he would catch up on any news–even if it was happening halfway across the world. He and Kuttyamma were also very religiously devoted, reciting the rosary together three times a day and praying for the protection of their loved ones. He was very active, loved to go on walks, and remained a strong swimmer even in his old age. He is survived by his wife Kuttyamma Philip (Karotukunnel); his children Bijoy/Sheena, Bincy/Jaison, and Rengit/Rohini; his siblings Aleyamma Pathuparayil, Annamma Pachikara, Joseph Akkamyalil, Thomas Akkamyalil; and his 10 grandchildren: Joel, Joann, Nevin, Isabel, Aidan, Roma, Shreya, Juliann, Immanuel, and Josiah. He will be sincerely missed and forever in the hearts of his family. Philip's legacy is one of love, familial devotion, and unwavering faith in what the Lord has planned. Stories of his life and impact will continue to be shared across generations of family. As we say goodbye to a beloved pillar of strength and affection, we celebrate his beautiful life and legacy he left. Rest in peace, Chachen… We love you and we will miss you forever…
