Nona Marie Sumner, 70, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday afternoon, August 18, 2026.
Nona was born on February 18, 1956, in St. Petersburg, Florida, to Robert Cahall and the late Dolores (Scott) Cahall.
She grew up in Lakeland, Florida, and was an alumna of Kathleen High School, where she cheered and later met the love of her life, her husband of 46 years, Robert Wayne Sumner. Nona was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who loved her family deeply.
Nona truly enjoyed cruising, camping, spending time with her family, and watching her grandchildren grow. She also loved cooking and baking, especially her famous chocolate chip cookies, which she joyfully made until her health no longer permitted her to.
During her career, she served as an Administrative Assistant for GTE and later spent 26 years as an Executive Assistant for Watkins Industries before retiring at the age of 59.
Her church home was Victory Church in Lakeland, where her faith and love for Jesus were an important part of her life.
Nona was preceded in death by her mother, Dolores Cahall, and her sister, Bobbi Burnett.
She is survived by her loving Husband, Robert Wayne Sumner; Daughter, DeWawn Sumner; Son, Ryan Sumner (Dinah); Grandchildren, Dillan Sumner, Clayton Smith, and Riley Sumner; Father, Robert Cahall; Sisters, Michelle McLeod and Sherly Cole and her beloved grand-dog, Tilly as well as numerous extended family members and dear friends.
Our family was immensely blessed to have Nona as our “Noni.” We feel incredibly grateful to have had her in our lives. She showed everyone unconditional love and had a true heart for Jesus. Though our hearts are broken, we find peace knowing she is now in Heaven, smiling down on us and resting in the loving arms of the Lord.
Nona will be deeply missed and forever loved.
