Nancy Jane Phelps passed away on October 12, 2026, in Lakeland, Florida, at the age of 91. Born on January 26, 1935, in Adams, Tennessee, Nancy moved to Lakeland from Michigan in 1984 and made it her home for more than four decades.
Nancy married the love of her life, Robert Phelps, on August 1, 1955. They shared many years together until his passing in 2009.
Nancy had a special gift for making people feel loved, and one of her favorite ways to show it was through food. She loved feeding people and spent many years cooking in nursing homes and school settings, where she shared her talents and kindness with others. She was also an avid sports fan, especially when it came to cheering on her beloved Tampa Bay Rays. Above all, Nancy found her greatest joy in her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
Nancy will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Dorothy Dulong and her husband, Jon, and Carole Jones and her husband, John; her sons, Bob Phelps, Jr. and his wife, Kim, Jim Phelps and his wife, Linda, and Dan Phelps and his wife, Tina; her cherished grandchildren, Jonathan, Jimmy B, Kelli, Derek, Katie, Haleigh, Jill, Jimmy P, and Bo, along with their spouses; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Aiden, Carson, AJ, Kenny, Colt, Lucy, Nolan, Skyleigh, Aurora, and Lia. Also survived by son-in-law Marvin Gray.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Phelps, and her daughter, Marcia Gray.
Nancy's loving heart and gentle spirit touched the lives of so many. She never judged others and was always ready to offer love, understanding, and an encouraging word to anyone who needed one. Her kindness, warmth, and unconditional love will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, the love she gave so freely will live on through the many lives she touched and the family she cherished so dearly.
Nancy will be forever loved, forever remembered, and forever missed.
