Obituary

Mary Margaret Stateler, 81, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2024. She was born on March 23, 1943, in Indianapolis, to the late Donald and Frances (Shea) Baker. Mary's lifelong dedication to service began as a parochial school teacher after graduating proudly from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School and Scecina Memorial High School. Later, she pursued a career in nursing, earning her degree from Indiana State University. Mary's nurturing spirit found its true calling in the Newborn Nursery at Polk General Hospital, where she tirelessly advocated for the medical care of the tiniest patients. Her compassionate journey continued as a social worker with the Department of Children and Families, where she touched countless lives within the foster care system, leaving an indelible impact on the community she cherished. Throughout her life, Mary was a fighter, demonstrating incredible strength and resilience in the face of health challenges at both the beginning and near the end of her life. She never wavered in her love, support, and compassion for others, always putting their needs before her own. Known for her warm heart and loving nature, Mary gave the best hugs, especially to her grandchildren, wrapping them in her love and kindness. Her "Grams' Famous Rice" was always a highlight at family events and holidays, cherished by all who had the pleasure of enjoying it. Mary is survived by her loving daughters, Dianne (Sal) Rosa, Jennifer (Tracey) Raven, and Amy (Grady) Miller; her grandchildren, Ryan Patrick Rosa, Andrew Lee Huizinga, Courtney Anne Rosa, Molly Frances Raven, Patrick James Miller, and Matthew Joseph Miller. She was preceded in death by her brother, Stephen Baker. Mary Margaret Stateler will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, dedication to family and community, and her profound impact on all who were fortunate to know her.
