Louis S. Cunningham, 86, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away on August 17, 2026. He was born on May 20, 1940, in Jennings, Florida, to Lewis and Lena Cunningham.

Louis proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. In 1984, he moved to Polk County, where he made his home and built a life centered around faith, family, and service to others. He was a devoted member of Eastside Baptist Church in Lakeland.

Louis dedicated 32 years of his career to the Florida Highway Patrol, retiring with the rank of Captain. He was respected for his commitment to serving others and took great pride in his work.

Outside of his career, Louis enjoyed fishing, woodworking, working in his yard, and Bible study. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Amy; and wife Geneva. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, George Cunningham and Harrell Cunningham; and his sister, Flora Bembry.

He is survived by his daughters, Lorna (Benny) Passmore and Kathryn Frack; grandchildren, Marie (Seth), Jamie (Christy), Anthony (Kendall), and Ben (Alisha); and great-grandchildren, Rynrie, Jamison, Abigail, and Serenity.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, Serenity Gardens Chapel. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Burial Park in Lakeland, Florida.
