Laurie Wnuk, 81, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, in Lakeland, Florida. She was born in greater Monroe County, New York and graduated from Charlotte High School and went on to receive degrees from the State University of New York and the University of South Florida. Laurie served as an elementary school educator for more than 30 years in Polk County, Florida.

Laurie was also preceded in death by her parents Edward R. Gaita and Lucy M. Gaita, her brother, Brian Gaita, and her former husband, Kenneth Wnuk. She is survived by her three children Kory Wnuk (Chrystal), Kristin Meador (David) and Klint Wnuk, along with her granddaughter Emma Wnuk.

Those who knew Laurie will remember her for being friendly, caring, and for her devotion to the Lord. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church served as a eucharistic minister and was an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary. In life she rejoiced in the Lord and found comfort in prayer (Isaiah 43, John 6, and Psalms 27 and 103). Above all, Laurie cherished time spent with the people she loved and the moments that brought everyone together.
