Kenneth "Kenny" Brian Thomson passed away in Lakeland, Florida, on August 6, 2026, at the age of 79.

Born on December 21, 1946, in Pontiac, Michigan, to the late James Nicol “Jimmy” Thomson and Alexandria "Ina" Duguid, Kenny moved to St. Petersburg with his family in 1955. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1969 as a heavy equipment operator with the Seabees. He achieved the rank of Petty Officer Second Class (E5) and earned the National Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Antarctic Service Medal.

Kenny’s military service and his career as a heavy equipment operator for Misener Marine Construction took him all over the world. His love for travel continued into his retirement. He and his wife, Debbie, took cruises and traveled the country in their RV. At home, he loved watching Western movies and lived life on his own terms. It was a life perfectly captured by his favorite Frank Sinatra song, "My Way," because he truly did it his way.

Kenny is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 20 years, Deborah "Debbie" (Hornburg), whom he married on December 26, 2006. In 2024, they moved to Lakeland, where they shared a quiet life enjoying the comforts of their home.

He leaves behind a loving, blended family, including his sons, Kenneth John "Kenny" Thomson and Scott Brian Thomson (Tiffany), alongside his stepchildren: Patricia Dyszer (Dave), Walter Adamski (Kari), Martin Adamski (Mannie), Kimberly Adamski (Mike Bateman), Jason Adamski, and Heather Tysco (Jeff). His memory will also be cherished by his siblings, Janet Elizabeth Sullivan and James Alexander "Jim" Thomson, USNR; his nieces, Janet Marie Sullivan-Lowry (Shawn), Lori Lou Sullivan, Ginny Lynn Sullivan, and Bonnie Lee Vysotsky (Radim); his nephew, Guy Sullivan; his grandnieces, Jade Alexandria Sullivan and Delia Maren Vysotsky; and his grandnephews, Gage Vysotsky and Ben Vysotsky.

Kenny’s legacy continues through his grandchildren: Heather Lynn, Lindsey, Nicole, Ashley, Savanna, Trenton, and Ella Grace, as well as his great-grandchildren, Riley and Mabel. His family tree further extends to his step-grandchildren: Brittney McDonnell (Ryan), Matthew Adamski, Michael Rowland, Melissa Ventress, Jeffrey Adamski, Joshua Adamski, Joanna Goforth (Matthew), Walter "J.R." Adamski Jr., Ashlie Townsend, Zachary Townsend, Shyanne Murdock, Eric Murdock Jr., Hunter Caldwell, Haley Caldwell, Andrew Adamski, and Ashlynn Adamski; and many step-great-grandchildren, including Alyssa McDonnell, Alexender, Sophia, and Ethan Ventress, Brooklyn Adamski, Aaron Prussey, Briggs and Sebastian Townsend, Scarlett Murdock, and the children of Joanna and Matthew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Margaret Ina Duncan, and his brother-in-law Hap Sullivan.

A service honoring Kenny’s life and military service will be held at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, on Friday, August 14th, at 12:00 PM. A celebration of life will immediately follow at the Gardner Pavilion within the Dade Battlefield Historic State Park. Those who wish to visit the grave itself may do so after 4:00 PM.
