John A. McLain, 81 of Lakeland went home to be with his Lord in Heaven on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. John was born on December 29, 1939 in Winter Haven to Austin "Mack" and Jeanette McLain. He worked in the mines as a maintenance mechanic for 42 years. John loved to fish, hunt and be with his family and was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. John is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Peggy Bledsoe McLain, a son John A. McLain, Jr.(Cindy) and a daughter Angela Lough(Matt) and Granddaughter Kyleigh Lough; and four siblings, Bobbie Alvis, Linda Cash(Robert), Doretha Daughtery and Butch McLain Missy). A funeral service for Mr. McLain will be held on Monday, March 1, 2021 at 11:00am in the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior at 10:00am. Interment will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in John's name to the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Building Fund or Good Shepherd Hospice.
