Jesse Leon
Mcdaniel
May 15, 1949 – June 26, 2025
Jesse Leon McDaniel Lakeland, FL - Jesse Leon McDaniel (May 15, 1949 - June 26, 2025), has ascended to eternal peace after bravely battling complex medical issues for several years.
Born in Homeland, Florida, he was a life-long resident of Bartow, Lakeland, and Winter Haven, Florida. Leon is survived by his brother, Larry Dean McDaniel (Mary) of Columbia, SC, and sister, Marilyn McDaniel Capps (Glenn) of Portal GA, along with many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is also survived by his former wife and long-time companion Vickie McDaniel of Lakeland, daughter Jodie Hayes (Robert) of Grovetown, GA, stepson Michael Burke of Lakeland, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Eunice and Faye (Hayes) McDaniel, and also his stepfather, Bill Padgett.
Also deceased are his brother C. Ray McDaniel, and sisters Myra McDaniel Horninger, and Marlene McDaniel Lewis. After graduation in the Class of 1967 at Summerlin Institute (now Bartow High School), Leon joined the U.S. Army.
After returning to Bartow, he began his career in law enforcement at Winter Haven Police Department. Leon served for many years as a private investigator for the C. Ray McDaniel Law Firm in Bartow, which led to a career of 20+ years serving as Probation Officer at Polk County Probation & Parole.
Leon loved the thrills of motorcycling and skydiving. He enjoyed vintage and antique cars, spending many hours perfecting and proudly exhibiting his 1967 Nova at regional car shows. Leon was active in the Fraternal Order of Police, as well as several military and law enforcement organizations.
Leon was fiercely loyal to family and friends, and was always willing to go an extra mile to help someone in need - without needing to be asked. He will be remembered lovingly for his remarkable dry sense of humor, his devotion to God and country, and his sincere appreciation for kindnesses toward him.
The Celebration of Life service to honor the life of Leon McDaniel will be held on Saturday, July 5, at 2:00 p.m. at First Christian Church of Bartow, 400 South Oak Ave., Bartow, FL. Friends and family will gather in the Fellowship Hall after the service to share fond memories of Leon.
