Hugh F. Patterson Jr, 78, of Lakeland died on April 27, 2024 at Lakeland Regional Health. He was born on July 26, 1945, to Hugh F. Patterson and Elizabeth Anne (Hoffman) Patterson in Camp Kilmer, NJ. Hugh grew up in Lakeland's Dixieland area. He married the love of his life, Catherine Cloud, on March 16, 1968, at the Lakeland EV Free Church. Hugh attended the University of Florida, receiving a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering; as well as Baptist Bible College in Springfield, graduate of Theology; and Luther Rice Seminary with a Master of Divinity in Christian School Education. Hugh worked as a chemical engineer for Lakeland Electric for almost 20 years. In addition, he taught middle and high school science at Christian schools for 20 years. He retired from Lakeland Christian School in 2011. Hugh also taught Sunday School, worked in Crusaders church, and sang in the adult choir at Calvary Baptist Church for 44 years. Hugh is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Catherine. He is survived by son, Jeffrey David Patterson of Eden, GA, daughter Amy R. (Craig) Patton of Rolla, MO, and daughter Leah R. (Nathan) Howard of Lakeland, FL. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Patrick, Wesley, Eliana, and Declan, and sisters Marcy (Joe) McClanahan of Port St. Lucie, FL and LouAnne Wallin of Springfield, PA. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 30th at 10:00 AM at Oak Hill Burial Park. Rev. Shane Skelton officiating.
