LAKELAND - The Reverend Eldon Donald Wadsworth, 81, peacefully slipped out of this world and moved into his heavenly home on Thursday, December 11, 2014. Death was a result of a stroke that occurred on Tuesday, December 2, 2014. He was born May 20, 1933, in Fairmont, WV. He was the second child born to Howard Jesse and Reland Marjorie Parker Wadsworth. He graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1951, Fairmont State College with honor in 1955, and Columbia Theological Seminary with a M. Div. degree in 1958. He served as pastor at Dinwiddie Presbyterian Church, Hillsville, VA.,1958 - 1965, Webb Presbyterian Church, Hillsville, VA., 1958 - 1961, Fairview Presbyterian Church, Hillsville, VA., 1958 - 1965, Hopewell Presbyterian Church, Huntersville, NC., 1965 - 1977, First Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis, NC., 1977 - 1998. All who knew him, know his services to the community are far too many to mention. He was serving at Florida Presbyterian Homes and the Lakeland Regional Medical Center the week of his stroke, the week preceding his death.
He was married to Eva Mitchell Wadsworth for over 54 years, until she passed away on September 5, 2012. He was preceded in death by both parents, his brother, as well as his wife. He is survived by his 2 sons, Mark Allen Wadsworth, Edgewater, FL. and Dale Greer Wadsworth, Amesbury, MA.; 3 grandchildren, Victoria Grace, Taylor Hope, and Deanna Joy Wadsworth, all of Amesbury, MA.; and many others who loved him dearly. Memorial services to be held 12/15/14, 4:00PM, North Lakeland Presbyterian Church, Lakeland, FL., 12/20/14, 11:00AM, Hopewell Presbyterian Church Huntersville, NC., 12/21/14, 2:00PM, Dinwiddie Presbyterian Church, Hillsville, VA., with burial following, weather permitting. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Florida Presbyterian Homes.
