He found solace and joy in the outdoors; the rhythms of hunting and fishing brought him peace and adventure in equal measure.
With the passing of Dr. Robert E. Bell, D.M.D., affectionately known to many as Bobby, Lakeland and the surrounding community bid farewell to a spirit whose generosity, warmth, and singular devotion to those in his care will echo across the years. Dr. Bell’s journey began on December 31, 1961, in Lakeland, Florida, a place that would remain his anchor, lifelong home, and the heart of his enduring service.
Born to Alice J. Bell and the late Arley E. Bell, Bobby’s earliest days were colored with promise, community ties, and a sense of belonging that would shape the man he became. He distinguished himself at Lake Gibson High School, where he embodied leadership as the first Homecoming King “Chief” and as a charter member of various clubs and civic organizations. His energy was boundless, not just in academics but in sport, as he brought the same wholehearted commitment to football, diving, swimming, tennis, and track. Bobby’s youthful fervor for life was unmistakable, and those formative years set the stage for a lifetime of achievement and service.
Bobby’s aspirations led him to the University of Florida College of Dentistry, where he honed his craft with diligence and integrity. Across more than forty years, Dr. Bell’s steady hands and gentle heart graced Lakeland, offering not just expert care, but also calming reassurance and kindness to each patient. His reputation as a well-known and accomplished dentist is built not only upon technical mastery, but on decades of attentive service, trust built, families tended, and smiles restored.
Outside his profession, Bobby wove a life rich in interests and devotion. He found solace and joy in the outdoors; the rhythms of hunting and fishing brought him peace and adventure in equal measure. He was also a masterful woodworker, with many detailed pieces and sculptures bearing testament to his patience, vision, and precise craftsmanship. Each creation was a piece of himself, works of care cherished long after its finishing touch.
Though grief returns us to all we have lost, Dr. Bell’s life is ultimately a story of all that remains, the warmth of family, the quiet nobility of service, and the joy found in hard work and simple pleasures.
Faith was a quiet but profound force in Bobby’s life, rooted in his membership at Westminster Presbyterian in Lakeland. It was here that he found reflection and community, a grounding presence through remarkable times and ordinary days alike.
To those who knew him, Bobby’s true legacy is measured in relationships, in the ways he gave of himself, and in the love that endures. He is survived by his devoted mother, Alice J. Bell, Largo, Florida; his sons, Gordon W. Bell (Megan), Las Vegas, Nevada and Grady R. Bell (Emily), Hawaii; his beloved grandson, Beaux Bell; brother, John D. Bell, Las Vegas Nevada and his sister, Donna J. Schaubert (Dan), Thonotosassa, Florida. Each carries forward part of his spirit, bound forever by memories.
He joins in rest his father, Arley E. Bell, whose memory and lessons shaped much of Bobby’s world. Though grief returns us to all we have lost, Dr. Bell’s life is ultimately a story of all that remains: the warmth of family, the quiet nobility of service, and the joy found in hard work and simple pleasures.
A Celebration of Life honoring Dr. Robert E. Bell will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Homes - Southside Chapel, 1727 Bartow Road, Lakeland, FL 33803.
