David Work Morris, 53, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away on December 8, 2024. Born in Lakeland, David led a life filled with service, love, and laughter. He retired from the Winter Haven Police Department in 2014 after dedicating many years to protecting and serving his community. David was a man of many passions. He had a love for tattoos. A devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox, he spent countless hours cheering on his team. His love for baseball was equally matched by his affection for spending time with his grandchildren. Whether it was playing with them or simply being present, David treasured these moments. He also enjoyed working with dogs, finding joy and fulfillment in connecting with and caring for animals. David's family meant the world to him. He is survived by his daughters, Amber (Joseph) Cooney and Taylor Perkins, his grandchildren, Aiden, Kolton, Charlotte, Braelynn, and Brooks, his mother Katherine Sue Yanke, his sisters, Melissa (Greg) Porter and Andrea Yanke, and Niece, Abigail Porter, and Nephew Austin Porter (Aubree) and their 2 sons. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald W. Morris, his granddaughter, Blayke Monroe Perkins, and cousin, Ryan Porter. David's life was characterized by his deep love for his family, his unwavering loyalty, and his zest for life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and the community he served. A celebration of David's life will be held at Victory Church, Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to warriordogfoundation.org/donation/
