Rev. David Lee Marsteller's Obituary
Rev. David Lee Marsteller passed away peacefully at the age of 89 in his home in Lakeland, Florida on October 20, 2025. He was born November 27, 1935 in Youngstown, Ohio to Rev. Andrew J. Marsteller and Gail (Way) Marsteller.
After graduating from Struthers High School in 1953, David went to Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee where he met the love of his life, Shirley J. Pitcher. David and Shirley married on August 10, 1957 after graduating with bachelor’s degrees from Bryan College. They then moved to Michigan where David attended Grand Rapids Baptist Theological Seminary. David used the training he received to serve as senior pastor of three different churches from 1961-2001. The churches were Cortland Trinity Baptist Church in Cortland, Ohio, Calvary Baptist Church in Sandusky, Ohio and Hope Baptist Church in Hope, Michigan, respectively.
After retiring from the pulpit, David and Shirley moved their home base of operations to Lakeland, Florida where they then served overseas in Australia, Cambodia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland and Taiwan as interim missionaries under Baptist World Mission from 2001-2014. David’s love for Jesus was exemplified in all he did. He shared the gospel with everyone he met and led many people into a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. After serving in ministry for over 50 years, David is remembered as a faithful man of God, loving husband, father and grandfather, a lover of singing tenor in choirs, and a master of puns. He will be missed.
