David Powell King's Obituary
David Powell King, born on May 2, 1958, passed away on May 3, 2024, just one day after celebrating his 66th birthday. David was preceded in death by his mother, Opal King, his father, Carl F. King, and his brother, Daniel King.
David leaves behind his loving wife of 42 years, Leigh Anne King. He is also survived by his sons: older son, Michael King, his wife Jessica of Orlando, FL, and their son Colin, David's cherished grandson; younger son, Nathaniel King, and his wife Laura, who reside in Lakeland, FL.
For over three decades, David served as a Minister of Music and Associate Pastor for the Church of God Ministries based in Anderson, Indiana, touching lives through his ministry in Tennessee, Ohio, Alabama, and Florida. His profound impact on the community extended into his 22 years as a music and theater teacher at Lakeland Highlands Middle School (Lakeland, FL), where he was honored twice as Teacher of the Year. His passion for music and the arts resonated deeply in his professional life and personal pursuits.
David's love for music encompassed all its forms, from listening to performing. He was a beacon of joy and inspiration, deeply committed to his family, church, and faith.
David's life was a testament to his love for life, family, church, and God. His legacy will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to know him and touched by his music and spirit.
A memorial service celebrating David’s life will be held at Scott Lake Baptist Church in Lakeland, FL (5811 Scott Lake Rd.), with a receiving of friends at 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM followed by an 11:00 AM service on May 11, 2024. Graveside service to follow. The family welcomes all who knew David to join in commemorating his life.
