Mrs Cora Nell Mitchell's Obituary
Mrs. Cora Nell Mitchell of Lakeland transitioned from this earthly existence to the presence of her Savior on Saturday, June 8, 2024. She was born in Freeburn, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Mr. Willis Fitch and Mrs. Evelyn Vanhoose Fitch. Cora had made her home in Lakeland since 1988, having moved from West Virginia.
Cora dedicated herself to serving the community with distinction as an administrator and social worker for the State of West Virginia Social Services for twenty-nine years and later worked for the Florida Department of Transportation until her retirement. Her commitment to her faith was unwavering, evident in her longstanding membership and trusteeship at Highland City Freewill Baptist Church.
In 1997, Cora entered into marriage with her beloved husband, John Charly Mitchell. Together, they cherished nearly thirty years of shared experiences and adventures. John survives her, along with her daughters, Bobbie Lanier (Jason) and Dee Dee Lucas; sons, John Mitchell, Jr. and Michael Mitchell; brother, Steve Fitch (Paula); sister, Nancy Pellitier (Roland); and grandchildren, Ryan Keith Adams, Alice Renee, Jeremy, Jenna, Julianna, Andy and Cayla; nieces and nephews, Jill, John, Sara, Bart (Bri), Jordan and Mia;and one great-grandchild, Aislynn.
A memorial service to commemorate and celebrate the life of Mrs. Mitchell will be conducted on Friday, June 14, 2024 at 3:00 PM. Taking place at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, Southside Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mrs. Mitchell are graciously requested to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
