LAKELAND-Mr. Bruce Edward Newell was born in Owosso, Michigan on January 1, 1940, He moved to Florida for sunnier weather in 1981. He was in home sales and was a Broker Associate (Realtor) with MidFlorida Real Estate Sales. He loved fishing, golfing, cooking, cheering on FSU and being the life of the party. He passed away peacefully at home. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille England, and his brother, Robert Waggoner. He leaves behind his wife of over 20 years, Katherine “Kathy” Newell, along with 6 children: Gregory Newell of Lakeland, Lori (Kevin) Royston of Chugiak, Alaska, Cynthia Shopf (Charles Weeks) of Davenport, Scott Newell of Port St. Lucie, Kimberly (David) Waller of Lakeland, and Karie Pate of Mulberry. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Gregory Newell Jr. (Ruth Pope) and Nicholas Newell of Lakeland, Jason (Sachiko) Newell of Puyallap, Washington, Michael Shopf of Jacksonville, Florida, Ashley Ferris of Key West, Kaitlyn, Alicia and Matthew Newell of Port St. Lucie, Sara Newell of Chugiak, Alaska, and Keith and Kyle Pate of Mulberry and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two cousins, Harolyn Anderson of Lakeland and Barbara Starck of Ponte Vedre, and sister in law Kaye Waggoner of St. Johns, Michigan. The visitation will be Monday from 10-11 AM at the Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home at Serenity Gardens (3350 Mall Hill Drive). Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to kidsPACK, 3725 Frontage Road North, Suite 1, Lakeland, Fl 33810 or the National Kidney Foundation of Florida, 1040 Woodcock Rd., Suite 119, Orlando, Fl 32803.
