Barbara Mayes Jackson's Obituary
Barbara Mayes Jackson died February 7, 2024. She was born April 27, 1929 in Cordele, Georgia to Frankye Davis and Garbert Mayes.
Barbara is a graduate of the University of Georgia school of journalism where she was a member of Chi Omega. She was a former board member of The First United Methodist Church, The Girls Club of Lakeland and The Junior League. She was a former president of The Contemporary Club and The Founders Antique Club. She was chairman of The Junior League new projects committee that started the Children’s Museum. It became the Polk Museum of Art. She was a member of the original board.
She is predeceased by her husband, Dr. William Franklin Jackson and son Dr. Robert Mayes Jackson. Barbara is survived by her children, Jane Jackson McEnerney (Joe) of Fairhope, Alabama, Mark Ainsworth Jackson of Port Charlotte, Florida. Two granddaughters, Anne McEnerney Sand (Eric) of Mobile, Nancy Mears McEnerney of London. Great grand children Joseph and Louise. She is also survived by her sisters, Nancy Mayes Willcoxon and Frances Mayes (Ed). Also by her niece Ashley King (Peter) and her nephew Clay Willcoxon (Elsbeth).
Funeral Services will be held at First United Methodist Church of Lakeland Friday February 16th at 1:00 P.M. With gratitude the family declines flowers, and suggest you remember Barbara by doing a random act of kindness.
