Angus Alvin Williams, Polk County native, passed on June 25, 2024. The son of Edwin and Myrtle Williams he was born in Lakeland, Florida. He was raised on a small farm in Galloway and attended Strawberry School at Kathleen Element Read Obituary
Mr. Williams was one of the kindest, funniest and friendliest men I've ever met. He was a huge part of my childhood. He taught me many things, not the least of which was how to play poker, and made me feel like I was a person, not just a kid. He made the hot days in the hayfield bearable by talking about how we'd escape it all when we recorded a hit record. I hope he finally records that record -- maybe with Kasandra, my daddy (Lemuel Bath) and Papa Keen!
Angus was such a beloved Cousin. I have many fond memories of Angus when I was a child. He was always the cool older Cousin who took me under his wing and treated me like a brother. He taught me to milk a cow. He took me fishing. He would toss the baseball with me and taught me how to catch fly balls. My parents, Grace & David Williams, and my sister, Jeanette Williams Thompson, all loved Angus. He would come to visit us when he was on leave from Fort Polk Army Base in Louisiana when he was in the army. He was a very successful career educator. My family had a high value for education. Both my sister and I were also career educators. We were very proud of all that Angus did in his career. Most of all, Angus was a truly good man. He was kind, caring and honest with high integrity. Mr. Williams was such a caring assistant principal at Lake Gibson Jr High School and always had a smile on his face. I remember when they were paddling you for chewing gum because the students were sticking it all over the campus. I blew a bubble in Mrs. Stickney's art class and she said, I have to send you to the office, if you wouldn't have blown a bubble in class in front of everyone, then I would have let you off. She said, I know your a good kid and never get into trouble but you did it in front of the class. I got it, her hands were tied. I begged Mr. Williams not to paddle me. He said, you've never been in troubled so, write me a paragraph and don't tell anyone I let you off so easy. Well, I just had to share the story because that is what kind of a man he was. He was loved by so many students and faculty at LGJH. He will be miss.

Angus was assistant principal at Lake Gibson Junior High School when I began teaching P.E. there, but I knew him long before that, as I had his daughter, Kasandra, and son Robert in my 4-H club. Angus was always a Great Gentleman and I loved him as a Friend. Prayers & blessings to the Family he leaves behind. Jean Davis.
I began teaching and coaching in 1978. I first heard of Angus Williams in 1979. Little did I know at that time that I would follow in his footsteps from teaching/coaching, Assistant Principal, Principal of the Opportunity School to Director of Discipline/Security. We became friends through work. Angus was my boss when I was the Director of Discipline/Security.
Angus and Clint Wright invited me to go fishing with them. Angus and I have fished together on Lake Kissimmee ever since. The last time we fished together was April 5 2024. We took a picture together that day that I will treasure as long as I live. I love Angus Williams and will miss him terribly.
